====== Reid, William D. ====== (died 30 Nov. 1959, aged 79), clergyman. He was born in Scotland, came to Canada in 1905, and was over many years a minister in Manitoba, Alberta and Ontario. In the GC area, he was the minister from 1943 to1947 of the three-point United Church charge of Glen Sandfield, East Hawkesbury and Dalhousie Mills. After leaving this charge, he was the minister 1947-1951 at Trinity United Church, Vankleek Hill. He was undoubtedly the William D. Reid who wrote the graceful tribute to “Sandy Fraser” (John E. McIntosh) which was published in the //Farmer’s Advocate// after Sandy Fraser’s death. According to private report, he did not know McIntosh well, but used to visit him while McIntosh was in hospital. William D. Reid died in Memorial Hospital, Carleton Place. (four children) He was married to Martha Morrison. The Rev. William D. Reid must be distinguished from the genealogist William D. Reid of Toronto, who compiled three volumes of genealogical data familiar to GC historians, //The Loyalists in Ontario: the Sons and Daughters //(1973), //Marriage Notices of Ontario// (1980) and //Death Notices of Ontario// (1980). William D. Reid of Toronto was born in Taunton, Somerset, Eng., on 4 Dec. 1905, and came to Canada about 1912. He worked in Toronto as a federal civil servant dealing with taxes. He died in hospital in Toronto on 8 Nov. 1969. He was married to Gertrude Elizabeth Coffee. ---- Obituary (undated clipping, portrait) * MacMillan, //Kirk//, 274 * C.
