====== Ross, Duncan A. ====== (4 Nov. 1873-3 March 1954), political figure. Born in the Martintown area of GC. Parents: Donald Ross and his wife Mary Jane Urquhart, both of U E Loyalist descent. He was educated locally and at Ontario Agricultural College, and was a farmer near Martintown. He was married (1) to Jemima Dingwall (d. 1909), and (2) on 28 June 1911 to Laura C. McGregor of Martintown. Duncan A. Ross was a councillor and reeve in Charlottenburgh Township, and secretary-treasurer of the Martintown branch, which he helped to form, of the United Farmers of Ontario (UFO). Standing as the candidate of the UFO, he was elected MLA for GC at the Ontario general election of 20 Oct. 1919, defeating the Liberal candidate Archibald J. Macdonald, who was later to be an MP for GC. Standing again as the UFO candidate at the Ontario general election of 25 June 1923, Duncan A. Ross was defeated by the Liberal candidate James A. Sangster. Duncan A. Ross was associated with the Martintown Rural Telephone Co., and served also as president of the Glengarry Farmers’ Mutual Fire Insurance Co. In 1943 he was appointed to the Canadian Farm Loan Board, at Ottawa, and held the position till shortly before his death. He died at Martintown. Mason, Orangeman. United Church elder.
