Aubry, Gabriel Gilles

(died 21 Feb. 1996 aged 75), lawyer. (G. G. Aubry, Gabe Aubry) Born Lancaster, GC. Parents: Theodule Aubry and his wife Marie Louise Bray. He graduated from University of Ottawa (1941) and Osgoode Hall Law School (1944), and was a sergeant in the Canadian Army in WWII. He was married in 1945 to Juliette Dubois (Glengarry News 2 Nov. 1945). In that year he joined the law practice of Donald A. Macdonald, Alexandria, a firm which he bought after Macdonald’s death in 1957, and which in Jan. 1958 took on the long-term name of Macdonald and Aubry (GN 2 Jan. 1958) and which continues the law practice of the historian John A. Macdonell. Aubry was one of the leading founders of the Glengarry Memorial Hospital and was the first chairman (1961-1965) of its board. He was a member and chairman, also, of the Glengarry High School Board. Active in Liberal Party affairs, he served as president of the Glengarry Liberal Association and of the Glengarry Prescott Russell Liberal Association. He was made a Q. C. in the New Year’s honours list, 1968. (GN 4 Jan. 1968) He retired from law practice 1991. His law firm is continued by his son Pierre. Gabriel Gilles Aubry died at Alexandria.
