Boyer, Andrew

(1900- 4 Jan. 1983, aged 82), newspaper publisher. He was not a Glengarrian, but for a period of 45 years (1929-1974) he edited and published the Eastern Ontario Review, the Vankleek Hill weekly newspaper which shared with the Glengarry News the role of providing newspaper coverage for the northeast part of GC. In early years he had worked as an office boy at the newspaper, and he had been a Review employee for 17 years when he bought the newspaper from W. J. Duncan in 1929. In 1974 Andrew Boyer passed the newspaper on to his sons. Highly active in local politics, Andrew Boyer was a long-term member of the Prescott and Russell United Counties Council, was for many years reeve of Vankleek Hill, and was warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell three times (1938, 1954, 1969). He was president of the Ontario Good Roads Association. Progressive Conservative. Roman Catholic. He was married to Albertha Richer. (seven children) See also Samuel I. Jones.
