Campbell, Robert

(20 March 1818-14 June 1887), lumberman. Born Glen Urquhart, Scotland. Parents: Dugald Campbell and his wife Isabella McLaren, emigrants to Canada in 1820 who lived at Breadalbane, GC, on south 1/2 Lot 8, 8th Concession of Lochiel. Robert Campbell spent his boyhood in GC. In his business career, he managed a lumbering business for John Egan near Eganville, Ont. on the Bonnechere River, and was the senior partner in his own lumbering firm of Robert Campell and Son, of Eganville, Ont. He was Liberal MP for Renfrew South from 1882 till his death, at Eganville, in 1887. He was married in 1845 to Elizabeth Lothian who was born at Breadalbane, GC, in 1824.

     Their son also called Robert Campbell (Robert A. Campbell, Robert Campbell Jr) attended high school at Vankleek Hill and followed the lumber business like his father. Robert Campbell Jr travelled on lumber rafts to Quebec. He was a partner in Robert Campbell and Son, and was also a partner in Campbell & McNab, which had a saw and grist mill at Douglas, Ont, near Eganville. Robert Campbell Jr was MLA for Renfrew South 1894-1898. He married Christina McNab, the daughter of Archibald McNab, the GC MP.
