Markson, Simpson M.

(died Nov. 1952, aged 72; born 1883 by another report), physician. (Dr S. Markson, Dr Simpson Markson) Born at Glen Robertson, GC. Parents: Nathan Markson and his wife Fannie Albion. He may have been named for the Simpson merchant family of Alexandria, or for Dr James Simpson, the physician, of Alexandria. A graduate of Alexandria High School, he obtained his medical degree from McGill University in 1904, and studied afterwards for two years at the University of Vienna, and more briefly in Frankfurt and Heidelburg. He was a specialist in dermatology, with a practice in Chicago before he moved to Milwaukee, Wisc. From 1910 he was an instructor at the School of Medicine, Marquette University, Milwaukee. In 1922 he was appointed chairman of the Dermatology Department in that medical school, and he held this position till his retirement in 1951. In 1939, Dr Simpson Markson and his son Dr Leonard S. Markson were in practice together in Milwaukee. (Glengarry News 13 Oct. 1939) The Glengarry News of 27 April 1951 published Dr Simpson Markson’s letter to the family of the late Angus Macdonell of Glen Robertson, in which Markson described himself as “an old Glen Robertsonian” and said that “For many years I have been a reader of The Glengarry News. I love it, for it helps to bind me in an ever lengthening tender chain to my old home in Glengarry.” Also, he published a letter of congratulation to the Glengarry News on the newspaper’s 60th anniversary. (GN 21 March 1952) He died in Milwaukee. (one child) The funeral was on 18 Nov. He was the brother of Dr David Edmund Markson and Dr Malcolm R. Markson, and a cousin of Dr Moses Markson and David E. Markson, of Alexandria. Abraham Markson also had a son called Simpson.
