Mossop, Mabel M. Dunlop
(26 Feb. 1893-26 Oct. 1991; died aged 98), local historian. (Mrs Mabel Dunlop Mossop, Mrs Mabel D. Mossop, Mrs Mabel Mossop) Born at South Lancaster, in GC. Parents: Mr and Mrs William W. Dunlop. She attended Lancaster and Williamstown schools, worked as a schoolteacher, and was married at South Lancaster on 18 April 1922 to Neron Frederick Mossop (later Air Commodore Mossop), of Smiths Falls. Having accompanied her husband in his professional life on air force bases in Canada and England, she retired at last with him to South Lancaster. Mrs Mossop was well known as a source of information on the South Lancaster area, but she published little. She and her husband took the leading part in the preparing of a little booklet, An Historical Sketch of St. Andrews Presbyterian Congregation Lancaster, Ontario: 170th Anniversary (1957). Two articles on the early history of the South Lancaster area which she published in the Glengarry News of 7 March and 4 April 1984 were reprinted in Glengarry Life No. 30 (1991). She was a descendant of John Cameron the Wise.
