Vallance, Allan Campbell

(23 Aug. 1912-9 July 1996), farmer. (Allan Vallance, Allan C. Vallance) Born in Kenyon Township, GC. Parents: James Vallance and his wife Jane MacLean. He attended Maxville High School, and was married in 1938 to Mary Kinnear. (two children, one surviving him) Allan Vallance was a farmer for much of his life, at first on his father’s farm, then on another farm, and eventually on Notfield Farm south of Maxville (see John P. McNaughton). Active in municipal politics and in many other areas of public life and public service, Vallance was a councillor on Kenyon Township Council, reeve of Kenyon, warden of SDG for the year 1958, councillor on Maxville Village Council, a school board trustee, and president of the board of the Children’s Aid Society. He was chairman of the steering committee formed in 1967 to arrange for the founding of the Maxville Manor (see Osie Villeneuve). Thereafter, Allan Vallance headed the work for building the Manor and getting it operating, and was president of the Manor board of directors from 1967 to 1973, and chairman of the Manor board of management from 1968 to 1973. From 1973 till his retirement at the end of 1977, he was employed as administrator of the Manor. On retirement, he and his wife settled in Cornwall. He was involved in public service work at this stage for the Eastern Counties Lung Association and the Ontario Lung Association. He died at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Cornwall. He was a Presbyterian, and long involved with the work of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Maxville. Burial was in Maxville Cemetery.
